The Yorkshire Federation of Referees has been recognised for their outstanding fundraising efforts with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association. Over the past year, referees from across the region came together to raise an incredible £3,756 in support of those affected by MND.
Through a series of charity events, including sponsored matches, raffles, and fundraising drives, the Yorkshire refereeing community demonstrated their commitment to making a difference beyond the rugby field. Their collective efforts will contribute to vital research and support services for individuals and families impacted by this devastating disease.
The fundraising efforts included a variety of activities, with referees and clubs across Yorkshire taking part in different initiatives to support the cause. Whether through sporting events, community gatherings, or personal challenges, the entire rugby community came together to raise funds and awareness. These efforts reinforced the values of camaraderie, perseverance, and mutual support that lie at the heart of rugby.
Simon Park, Chair of the Yorkshire Federation of Referees, expressed his pride in the achievement: “Rugby is built on values of teamwork and support, and it’s fantastic to see those principles extend beyond the game. Raising funds for the MND Association was something we all felt passionate about, and we’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of everyone who contributed.”
The MND Association works tirelessly to improve access to care, research new treatments, and provide much-needed support to those living with motor neurone disease. The donation from the Yorkshire referees will help further these essential efforts. Every pound raised goes towards improving the lives of those affected, funding ground breaking research, and offering essential support to families navigating the challenges of MND.

Receiving the Certificate of Appreciation is a testament to the commitment and generosity of the refereeing community. It highlights the impact that collective action can have in supporting charitable causes and making a real difference in people’s lives. The recognition serves as encouragement for continued efforts in fundraising and community engagement, ensuring that Yorkshire referees remain at the forefront of charitable initiatives within the rugby world.
A huge congratulations to all involved in this fantastic initiative. Your dedication and generosity exemplify the very best of the rugby community! The Federation hopes to build on this success and continue their charitable activities in the future, further strengthening the bonds between sport and social responsibility.
